Thanks for the practical advice on advice. Parents can be a boundless source of moral support but I would not trust them to see my career objectively. Also, it's a poor practice to stress the bonds of family & friendship with monetary obligations.

Nicely stated! People do constantly try to be supportive and offer suggestions as if they know better than anyone else. Getting tips from others about how to proceed is all well and good, but you're right that in the end it's up to you. If only I had a nickel for every time someone gave me “helpful” advice that I didn't ask for….

So true! We often end up at standstill because we are taking advice from too many sources. Keeping it simple by doing your own research and following your instincts is usually the best way to go.
