  • $950,000 from Ben Franklin to Local Startups

    by on November 17, 2009

The Ben Franklin Technology Partners development program announced Monday that it will be investing $950,000 in five startups in the Philadelphia region.  The program strives to help emerging technology companies with capital, as well as both product focus and direction and networking support.  Any and all of these things at a key time could help make a startup a success.

Innova Materials focuses on new types of materials for various uses.  Their core technology, Innlay, helps manufacturers add additional properties to materials as part of the existing manufacturing process, such as antimicrobial protection, seen lately on various types of food prep and bathroom surfaces.  They received $225,000.

ListenLogic received $250,000.  They help to monitor your brand, marketing efforts, or whatever public information you’re interested in across the interactive web.  They definitely are one to watch in the Social Marketing arena.

Snipi, another player in the social scene, allows you to snip content, building collections of photos, videos, and even entire products that interest you, as you visit various sites on the internet. They received $125,000.  The “product collections” seem to be where Snipi will be making their revenue, but hopefully we’ll have some more information on that in an upcoming piece.

Lastly CogniPower and BuLogic, Inc are working towards the underlying technologies that in theory will usher in the “green revolution.”  CogniPower helps to rethink how efficient power converters and the like can be and received $200,000 while BuLogic, Inc. who is developing wireless systems to help automate conservation received $150,000.

With its hands in advanced materials and manufacturing processes, clean power technologies and social media trending and collecting, to name a few, Philadelphia’s got a vibrant and diverse startup ecosystem moving along quite nicely.  We look forward to writing more about these different ventures in the future.
